Reviewing the Innova Fitness ITM4800 inversion therapy table with included heat and massage, I found a well built unit that offers its user some added advantages. As you read this review I think you’ll see why I believe this could be a great mid priced inversion table with several added user features.

One of the unique features I like about the Innova Fitness line is their use of a 4 position positive lock inversion control. This control means no safety tether strap to adjust. Read on to learn about the pros and cons of this system as well as other safety features built into this Innova Fitness table.

I’ve mentioned this in other reviews but you can’t go wrong with square tube steel frame construction. The Innova ITM4800 Decompression Therapy Table is well built, featuring 1.5 inch square tube steel for its frame. Much like other Innova models, the ITM4800 comes with both left and right leg assemblies put together at the factory. This means that the folding hinge assembly and pivot assembly rods are both installed at the factory.

[toc]In doing my research I did run across a couple of instances where people had issues with one of these pre-assembled sections having broken parts. You see, the Innova IX series of tables all use this pre-assembly and it’s one possible drawback has to be the use of plastic bushings in the pivot bar assembly. While this assembly is rated from the factory to hold up to 300 lbs. it’s worth noting here of the possibility of these plastic bushings breaking.

A little further down the review I am including a picture that shows the Innova pivot assembly next to an Ironman all steel pivot assembly. This can be one of the most important things to consider when shopping for a new decompression unit. I grew up in a world of “You get what you pay for” and that can sometimes be a hard one to accept. When you are spending $100-150 on an incline unit, you expect quality as you should. What you need to think about though are things like these pivot joints which are commonly made with plastic bushings in this price range while units in the $200-300 price range typically use all metal parts which are more durable.

What I’m trying to point out here is under normal use a product like the Innova ITM4800 therapy unit should give you years of solid service, but it’s more possible to have a problem with a model built like this that one costing less than $100 more.

As for the rest of the Innova ITM4800 construction, you can expect to find a high quality square tube steel frame supporting the entire length of the backrest and foot support system. One other possible nuisance could be the round plastic feet that slip onto each corner of the frame. A few people complained about these slipping off while moving the table and then having to put them back on

Ankle Support

Learn about the Innova ITM4800 Inversion Therapy Table with Heat and Massage Review hereI like the design used for ankle support in the Innova ITM4800 incline therapy device. I talk about this in every review because ankle support design is important to a comfortable user experience. The Innova ITM4800 uses a pair of cuff style rear ankle support pads and combines these with a round foam pad front ankle support pad combination. The ankle supports are locked into place by pulling a release pin and sliding the T-bar front cushion support firmly against your ankles and then releasing the pin bar for a positive lock.

When it comes to comfort with any inversion table, it’s important to keep in mind that the deeper into incline you go the more of your weight is going to be supported by these pads clamped around your ankles. For this reason, I recommend buying a system that at least offers cuff style pads in the rear and personally prefer a table with cuff style pads both front and rear. If you experience discomfort while inverted, try adding a pair of extra thick sock or possibly a pair of shoes with taller cuff supports. I use an Ironman Gravity 4000 at home and it features front and rear cuff style supports. As a result, I invert 2-3 time each day never wearing shoes and often not even socks. I deal with sore ankles and knees during the winter but because of the comfort level of my tables ankle system I don’t have any additional discomfort.

Inversion Options

Here is where we get to talk about added advantages the Innova ITM4800 incline therapy table has to offer over many other units.

The Innova ITM4800 is designed like many similar units in that it is designed to accommodate users from 5’-1” to 6’-6” tall weighing up to 300 lbs. It’s important to understand that inversion in a balancing act. Think of this process like a fulcrum with a center pivot point and equal weight suspended from each end. For this reason, I always point out that once you have your new table set up you will want to experiment with height settings even a few inches taller or shorter than your actual height until you reach a point where simply laying back will bring you to a comfortable incline.

I mention this because some people question the setting at both ends of the limits. In other words, if you are 6’-4” tall this unit might work well for you or it might be slightly out of balance. On my unit at home for example, I am 5’-10” tall but I reach perfect balance when my unit is set at 6’-0”.

The Innova ITM4800 is designed like other units in the ITX series which means that it has a 4 position locking incline control rather than a tether strap inversion control system. Before mounting the table, you will set a pin in one of the two side frames that will limit incline to one of four angles. Your choices will be 20 degrees, 40 degrees, 60 degrees, or 80 degrees. This differs from a tether strap system which allows for any angle setting but must be adjusted for each change and never hits the exact same angle twice.

Because of the locking angle control this unit will not go to a full 90-degree incline. That should not be a problem if your goal is to use this table for therapeutic decompression. If your desire is to purchase a table that will achieve full 90-degree inversion for extensive physical workouts, then I recommend you check out a model like the Teeter Hang Ups EP 560 inversion table.

The real number one reason to be considering this inversion table would be for the advanced therapeutic heat and massage feature that comes with the table. This therapeutic heat and massage unit comes in the form of a removable lumbar heat and massage pad that has its own wall plug power supply and wired remote control. With this feature you will have the added decompression help of gentle heat and massage that can be positioned where need while using your inversion table. The lumbar support heating unit is removable if you prefer using the flat backrest alone some times.

If you are not interested in the heat and massage feature, then consider the Innova ITX9600 inversion table which will give you all the features I’ve discussed above for about $50 less money.

Assembly & Storage

The assembly process for the Innova Fitness ITM4800 is fairly simple and should take less than 1 hour. The unit comes with both side legs pre-assembled. This means solid hinge construction from the factory and the pivot bar assemblies are already installed.

The owners and assembly manual are well documented in English with clear pictures that should be easy to follow for anyone. I think you will like the included use and care section in the back of the book that covers use of the included heat and massage unit as well as instructions on preparing for inversion by stretching and how to use the table effectively.

This unit is designed so you can fold it up for storage. The process is simple. There is a locking pin on one leg hinge that you remove and the front legs fold back to the rear legs. If you are looking to store this unit, plan on a folded size of 28” wide about 72” long and it will be 16” deep when folded.

The front legs fold back for easy storage but it’s worth noting that there is no strap or system to lock the unit in a folded position. So be very careful if trying to store your unit while not in use. While the unit is not very heavy, only 52 lbs. assembled, it is very bulky. I have found it works better to leave a space in the corner of a room and leave my unit set up all the time. This way it takes up the least possible space and I don’t have to fold and lug it around twice a day.

Safety is an important issue with any incline table. When it comes to safety with the Innova Fitness ITM4800, I found 5 key safety features that I’ll briefly mention here. The first two are the positive locking pins installed in the leg hinge area. One is a removable pin that should always be left in place except to fold the unit up. This pin prevents the frame from collapsing while the unit is in use. The second pin is the pull-lock pin used to set the inversion limit position and this pin should also be securely set before each use.

Next are the two locks that work together at the height adjustment bar. First you have a pull-lock pin which is the primary set pin for the height adjuster. There is a second loose lock-in pin that you install as a backup to insure that the leg support lock never fails while your upside down which would cause a violent drop based on your height and weight.

The last safety item is the mounted arch handles on both sides which assist you in righting yourself once your session ends.

Last note here would be that this incline table includes skid proof plastic feet on all 4 corners of the base for a more stable position on hard floors.

I’m not going to go into the details of the health related safety concerns you should check out, because I’ve talked about them in detail in another article. But it’s important to note that if you have any current health issue I advise that you check with your doctor or chiropractor before beginning any decompression therapy program.

The Innova Fitness ITM4800 has the added feature of an included heat and massage therapy lumbar support pad as described above.

I mentioned a few details about assembled space requirements as well as folded storage sizes and unit weight above. But for anyone interested in shipping information the shipping carton size is 50″ x 23″ x 5″ in a heavy cardboard box and shipping weight is 56.8 lbs.

Innova Fitness ITM4800 Inversion Therapy Table Price

I found the Innova Fitness ITM4800 Therapeutic Inversion Therapy Table to be a solid value for the price. It is a well-built model in its price range. At less than $175 with included heat and massage option it is one of the lowest price units in its class.
